Why Participate?

To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the historic Old Railway Building, PTSC is hosting an exciting art competition for primary and secondary school students across Trinidad and Tobago. This competition invites young artists to showcase their creativity while exploring the rich history and architectural beauty of the Old Railway Building.

By participating, students will not only learn about an important part of the nation’s heritage but also have the chance to express their artistic talents and be recognized for their unique interpretations.

Research resources are available on the PTSC and National Trust websites to help inspire their creations.

Competition Details:

Theme: “Journey Through Time: Celebrating 100 Years of the Old Railway Building”

• Eligibility:

The competition is open to all Primary and Secondary School students.

• Submission Guidelines:

  1. Art Medium: The student may submit works in the following mediums: Painting (acrylic, water colour, oil), Drawing (pencil, charcoal, ink), or a mixture of mediums.
  2. Size Restriction: The submission should be no larger than 24×36 inches.
  3. Entry Form (See Appendix 1): Participants must complete an entry form.
  4. All artwork submissions will be submitted to the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) on Monday 7th October, 2024.

• Judging Criteria:

A panel of judges, including local artists, historians, community leaders and PTSC representatives, will evaluate submissions based on the following criteria:

  1. Creativity and Originality: How unique and innovative is the artwork?
  2. Relevance to Theme: Does the theme effectively reflect the theme of the competition?
  3. Technical Skill: What is the level of the techniques demonstrated in the artwork?

• Prizes:

Free field Trips for the winners’ classes.

• Exhibition:

Selected artwork will be displayed at a special exhibition held at the National Museum and Art Gallery, South Quay, Port of Spain.
