Manager – Legal Services
JOB SUMMARY:
The Manager, Legal Services is responsible for leading, coordinating, and managing all legal functions of the Corporation. The position provides legal advice to Executive Management, ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations, oversees litigation and contractual matters, and supports corporate governance. The incumbent plays a strategic role in protecting the Corporation’s legal interests while guiding sound decision-making across all operational units.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic, leadership and administrative responsibilities
- Serve as subject matter expert on legal, compliance and Industrial Relation issues
- Support the Department’s role as primary liaison between the Corporation and these external stakeholders, including government ministries
- Maintain effective stakeholder relationships
- Responsible for the execution and management of strategic initiatives within their department as required
- Responsible for demonstrating and upholding the Corporation’s values and developing and overseeing initiatives to embed same within the Department.
- Maintain effective inter-departmental relationships.
- Participates in decision making regarding strategic direction policies and specific goals of the Corporation.
Functional responsibilities
Board support and legal advice and research, including:
- Review contracts, leases, agreements and terms and conditions offered by suppliers and external parties and negotiate, or advise negotiators, on terms and conditions that will serve the best interest of the Corporation.
- Research relevant legislation and standards and provides legal advice to support the implementation of new services or other Board decisions.
- Monitor and maintain the necessary changes in statutory or regulatory management.
- Co-ordinate and decide with the Board of Management to brief complex matters to external counsel for opinion and provides instructions to Attorneys for court related matters.
- Represent the Corporation in the various Courts of Trinidad and Tobago in Court matters where necessary.
- Represent PTSC internally and externally in negotiation, disputes, consultations and other proceedings that require legal representation,
- Provide in-house legal counsel to the various departments in PTSC as required
- Provide advice, opinion, direction and guidance on legal issues and requirements of all functional areas of PTSC
Records management:
- Manage and maintain corporate, legal and other relevant records
- Provide information as required by the FOIA on behalf of the Corporation
