ENVIRONMENTAL OFFICER
JOB SUMMARY:
The Environmental Officer is responsible for the development, implementation and delivery of environmental programmes and initiatives that seek to reduce the carbon footprint of the Public Transport Service Corporation. The position is responsible for researching, monitoring and mitigating the innate environmental impacts of the Corporation’s operations with emphasis on its emissions, waste generation and contamination. The Environmental Officer will also promote and drive environmental projects at the PTSC.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures compliance with current environmental legislation.
- Advises on and drafts the Corporation’s environmental policies and strategies.
- Carries out desk-based research, conducts field surveys, collects data to evaluate environmental impacts and plan remedial measures.
- Guides the development and implementation of initiatives to reduce emissions as well as conserve and recycle operational resources, e.g. lubricants, batteries, tyres and water.
- Develops and implements environmental management systems to continually improve the impact of the Corporation on the environment.
- Conducts environmental impact assessments to determine the environmental impacts of the Corporation’s operations on the environment.
- Manages environmental contractors engaged in environmental testing, cleaning and monitoring activities on the Corporation’s compound.
- Keeps informed of industry trends in clean transport technologies, e.g. CNG, electrically charged and hybrid buses.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field.
- A BSc in Environmental Science, BSc in Health and Safety or
- Any combination of experience and academic qualifications from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
At least three (3) years’ experience in a similar capacity
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of the Laws of Trinidad and Tobago.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent note-taking and minute writing skills.
- Analytical and problem solving skills.
Any combination of experience and academic qualifications from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
